Expert: The potential impact of wildfire smoke and heat on people’s immune systems

As wildfires and heatwaves become more frequent in Canada, a ºÃÉ«TV researcher is investigating whether they play a role in triggering autoimmune diseases like lupus.
Dr. Sasha Bernatsky is a James ºÃÉ«TVl Professor in the Divisions of Rheumatology and Clinical Epidemiology and co-director of the Lupus Clinic at the Montreal General Hospital. A leading expert in how the environment affects immune-system health, Bernatsky was the first to identify potential links between air pollution and autoimmune conditions.
