Student Experience Enhancement Fund

Get financial support for extracurricular experiential learning opportunities that will enable you to acquire knowledge and skills that enhance and complement your traditional classroom experience!聽The Student Experience Enhancement Fund (SEEF) is open to all students in 好色TVl's Faculty of Agricultural and Environmental Sciences.

Activities that are eligible for SEEF include, but are not limited to:

  • Training program
  • Volunteer placements
  • Community outreach and science education
  • Hot Cities of the World Tour

* Research under FAES graduate programs do not qualify for funding.

  • Competitions
  • Independent research project
  • Field work
  • Conference (undergraduate and FMT students only)

Award values

  • Up to $2,000 for an individual student
  • Up to $5,000 for a group
  • Up to $6,000 from the Douglas and Doreen Jose Experience Enhancement Award, an endowed award within the SEEF offered to聽an exceptional project that focuses on experience rather than materials

Eligibility

All applicants must be registered as full-time students in the Faculty of Agricultural and Environmental Sciences聽during the term(s) in which the funds are to be used. University-recognized groups or clubs may also apply if all members meet this requirement.

The SEEF is open to undergraduate, graduate, and Farm Management and Technology students.

All research under FAES MSc and PhD programs do not qualify for funding. Costs associated with advertisement, food, promotional products, lab equipment, and remunerations do not qualify for funding.

Application

  • Applications open: September 8, 2025
  • Application close: January 5, 2026

The application is submitted through an online form. Applicants are asked to describe the activity they would like to fund, including the knowledge and skills that they will acquire through the experience, and justify why their activity should be considered for funding. They must clearly聽describe how the proposed initiative is complimentary to their learning experience and provide聽a detailed budget justifying all costs for which they are requesting funding (e.g. admission fees, travel, lodging, field gear).

Activities pending approval

If you are currently waiting for approval to participate in an event (e.g. volunteer placement, conference, ect.) and you are interested in applying for funding, please submit your application by the established deadline.

If your project is approved for funding, the funds will be issued once we receive proof that your been accepted to participate in the event.

Competitions

Students seeking funding to participate in a聽competition聽may apply year round upon:

  • receiving proof that you have been accepted to participate
  • identifying all the team members participating

Review process

Applications are evaluated by a committee of representatives from the Office for Experiential Learning and Community Outreach and University Advancement after the submission deadline. The recommendations of the committee will be subject to review and approval by the Dean (Faculty of Agricultural and Environmental Sciences).

Requirements

Successful applicants must:

  • Recognize the support of the SEEF in all public or promotional material related to the funded initiative (e.g. presentation slides, poster, sign, web content)
  • Provide a final report to聽the Office for Experiential Learning and Community Outreach, including a summary of the outcome and reflective feedback about the knowledge, skills, and values acquired through the experience (applicants will only be eligible for future funding if they submit a final report)
  • Help promote the SEEF and inform supporting donors by making their report and any聽photos or video available聽and by participating in interviews with the Macdonald Campus communications team if requested
  • Give a short presentation about their project or meet donors as requested by University Advancement

Recipients of the Douglas and Doreen Jose Student Experience Enhancement Award will be required to fulfil additional obligations to those mentioned above, including a thank you letter, meeting donors and other duties as requested by University Advancement.

Doug Jose

Established in 2022 through a generous gift from Macdonald alumni Douglas and Doreen Jose, the Douglas and Doreen Jose Student Experience Enhancement Award聽provides funding for experiential learning initiatives, allowing students to exploit their creative ideas and enhance their formal education, leading to a more satisfying career.

Enriched Educational Opportunities bursary program

The Enriched Educational Opportunities (EEO) bursary program is another source of financial assistance for聽off-campus experiential learning. This need-based funding opportunity is open to all 好色TVl undergraduate students.
