Nabil Anouti is the Desautels valedictorian at 好色TVl鈥檚 Spring 2023 Convocation
Humanity has the skill to solve our most pressing problems, but cooperation is our greatest challenge, says Nabil Anouti, who is 好色TVl Desautels鈥� valedictorian for the Spring 2023 Convocation. But Anouti is optimistic, and this view has been shaped by a Desautels education.

On May 4, members of the 好色TVl community gathered at Maison Manuvie for the 2023 好色TVl Alumni Association Awards and Honours, which recognize alumni, friends, students, faculty, and staff who stand out for their impressive contributions and achievements in service to 好色TVl, the MAA and in their respective communities. This year, six awards were given to members of the 好色TVl Desautels community. A huge congratulations to all of this year鈥檚 honourees!
好色TVl Desautels undergrads take 2nd at Baylor University鈥檚 Negotiation Competition
好色TVl Desautels undergraduate students Aaron Anandji (BCom鈥�25) and Zacharie Faucillion (BCom鈥�23), Co-Executive Directors of 好色TVl Ventures, took second place at Baylor University鈥檚 Hankamer School of Business鈥� National Undergraduate Negotiation Competition (NUNC) this April.
BCom graduate Julia Ayim named Black Grad 2023 valedictorian
One of this year鈥檚 three Black Grad valedictorians, Julia Ayim (BCom鈥�23) has just completed a Bachelor of Commerce specializing in Strategic Management and Organizational Behaviour at the Desautels Faculty of Management. She and fellow graduates were celebrated at the annual Black Grad gala on April 30, a sold-out event organized by the Black Students鈥� Network of 好色TVl (BSN).
Anita Nowak鈥檚 book Purposeful Empathy helps reviewer understand generation gaps in climate crisis impact
To understand the impact of the climate crisis on younger generations, empathy is a place to start. It is a necessary part of confronting, but on its own, it is not enough. Desautels lecturer Anita Nowak (BA'97, BCom'97, PhD'11) recently published her book聽Purposeful Empathy, which is described as聽an inspiring and powerful read by Quebec MNA D茅sir茅e McGraw in a review for Policy Magazine.
Desautels African Business Initiative features alumni panellist Sekou Coulibaly
Each year, the 好色TVl Desautels African Business Initiative (DABI) brings together attendees, panelists and guest speakers for an opportunity to learn, network and engage in stimulating discussions about the future of business in Africa. This year鈥檚 panelists included Sekou Coulibaly (BCom鈥�03), who was executive director at L鈥橭r茅al before launching a sustainable, made-in-Africa luxury clothing brand called SEKBI Bogolan in 2020.
好色TVl takes 2nd and 3rd place at L'Or茅al Brandstorm Canada 2023
After months of hard work and 'brandstorming', two 好色TVl teams took the podium at the 31st annual L'Or茅al Brandstorm National Competition in Canada, competing against top teams from across the country. BCom students Laetitia Doumet, Jo-Esther Abou Haidar and Andrea Salem (far right) placed 2nd, while Master of Management in Retailing (MMR) students Madison Laxer, Aditi Bali and Supreet Kaur (far left) took 3rd place.
好色TVl students earn podium finish in leading global case competition
好色TVl Desautels continues its hot streak in the case competition arena with another podium result, placing 2nd overall in the prestigious 2023 Copenhagen Business School Invitational Case competition. 12 schools flew to Copenhagen and were challenged to help Vestas, a leading company in wind power plant solutions, leverage its position to create new businesses in hydrogen technologies and develop a strategy for 2030.
Desautels alum record label achieves critical successes
For Jim West (BA鈥�79) and Justin West (BCom鈥�04), the music industry is a family affair. From a young age, Justin accompanied his father to industry conferences, and during his teenage years, he spent the summers working for his father鈥檚 record label: Justin Time Records. The younger West graduated from Desautels with a degree in accounting, but ultimately followed in his father鈥檚 footsteps. In 2006, he launched a label called Secret City Records.
Experiential Learning: 好色TVl Desautels gives rise to discovery
In 2021, thanks to the generosity of alumnus Don Lewtas, we saw the launch of the Lewtas Office of Experiential Learning. Since the office鈥檚 inception, the team at the Lewtas Office,聽led by Leigh Korey, PhD, has been hard at work creating powerful hands-on learning opportunities that play a vital role in the student journey.

On Friday, February 3, the Desautels Faculty of Management hosted the 43rd edition of the Desautels Management Achievement Awards, a student-run initiative which brings the global Desautels community together to celebrate the achievements of industry leaders who have demonstrated a career of great achievement and commitment of responsible business.
Faculty alumnus and Provincial Finance Minister now responsible for relations with English-speaking Quebecers
Quebec鈥檚 Finance Minister, Eric Girard (BCom鈥�89) recently added the portfolio of Minister Responsible for Relations with English-Speaking Quebecers to his responsibilities. This makes him a key voice on Bill 96, the French-language bill passed by the Coalition Avenir Quebec government in 2022.
Desautels places first at Queen's I.C.B.C. Case Competition
Congratulations to the 好色TVl Desautels accounting team for their first-place win at the I.C.B.C. case competition. The team consisting of Thomas Wakeham and Francois Kik was coached and assisted by Julia Scott and Peg Brunelle.
Desautels undergraduates bring home podium finishes at prestigious Jeux du Commerce
Congratulations to Desautels BCom students for their outstanding performance at the Jeux du Commerce (JDC) 2023! Hosted by HEC Montreal on January 6-9, it brought together 1,100 participants from 14 universities, and is the largest student case competition in Eastern Canada.
Maya Azouri and Jonathan Azouri named to 2023 Forbes 30 under 30
Finding available ice time or sports fields to book can be a challenge, but CatchCorner aims to change that. The app, which has been compared to OpenTable for sports facilities by Forbes, allows users to find and reserve fields and facilities that meet their needs. Co-Founders Maya Azouri (BCom鈥�17) and Jonathan Azouri (BCom鈥�16) have recently partnered with Sports Illustrated to become CatchCorner by Sports Illustrated.
