Robinson presents\, 'Precision modelling of individu al cortical organisation and its links with cognition and neuropsychiatric disease'.\n\nRegistration available here.\n\nSpeaker: Emma C. Robinson\, Ph.D.\n\nKings College London\, London\, UK\n\nAbstract: The human cerebra l cortex is a complex structure\, responsible for higher-order cognitive f unction\, and implicated in a broad range of neurological and psychiatric  disorders. Studying its involvement health and disease is challenging sinc e it varies across individuals in ways that break the assumptions topology -preserving\, image registration techniques. As a result\, subtle signatur es of cognition and behaviour tend to get lost in the misalignment noise. In this talk\, I will discuss techiniques for overcoming these challenges by incorporating explicit models of cortical heterogenity throughout the a nalysis pipeline. I will show examples of utilising deep learning as a reg istration independent tool for modelling cortical variation and will demon strate some efforts towards propagating the Human Connectome Project corti cal parcellation towards new datasets.\n\nBio: Emma Robinson is a lecturer (Ass. Prof) working in the Biomedical Engineering Department of Kings Col lege London. She is probably best known for the development of Multimodal Surface Matching (MSM) the cortical surface registration tool adopted by t he (Developing) Human Connectome Projects. Prior to taking up her position at KCL she worked at Imperial College and FMRIB (The University of Oxford ). Her current work focuses on the use of volumetric and surface deep lear ning to better map topographic variability of cortical organisation\, spat io-temporal cortical functional dynamics and predict subject-specific traj ectories of neurological disease.\n\n\nThe Feindel Virtual Brain and Mind (VBM) Seminar Series will advance the vision of Dr. William Feindel (1918– 2014)\, Former Director of the Neuro (1972–1984)\, to constantly bridge th e clinical and research realms. The talks will highlight the latest advanc es and discoveries in neuropsychology\, cognitive neuroscience\, and neuro imaging.\n\nSpeakers will include scientists from across The Neuro\, as we ll as colleagues and collaborators locally and from around the world. The series is intended to provide a virtual forum for scientists and trainees to continue to foster interdisciplinary exchanges on the mechanisms\, diag nosis and treatment of brain and cognitive disorders.\n DTSTART:20210922T200000Z DTEND:20210922T210000Z SUMMARY:Feindel Virtual Brain and Mind Lecture Series: Precision modelling of individual cortical organisation and its links with cognition and neuro psychiatric disease URL:/neuro/channels/event/feindel-virtual-brain-and-mi nd-lecture-series-precision-modelling-individual-cortical-organisation-332 115 END:VEVENT END:VCALENDAR
