The first talk will focus on geometric methods that have been used to st udy regularity estimates in Obstacle-Type Free Boundary Problems. The regu larity theory for obstacle-type problems (and other type of free boundary problems as well) was much inspired by the regularity theory for minimal s urfaces. We will discuss the basic existence\, uniqueness and regularity q uestions in the classical obstacle problem. We will point out generalizati ons and current problems of interest in this field of research. In the sec ond talk we will focus on an obstacle-type problem arising in stochastic i mpulse control theory that appeared first as a model for cash management a nd portfolio optimization under transaction costs. Here the underlying the ory for the obstacle problem has to be suitably modified to consider obsta cle problems with an implicit and nonlocal obstacle. Regularity estimates will be presented and natural directions for future research discussed.bur n\n DTSTART:20161005T173000Z DTEND:20161005T183000Z LOCATION:Room 920\, Burnside Hall\, CA\, QC\, Montreal\, H3A 0B9\, 805 rue Sherbrooke Ouest SUMMARY:Rohit Jain (ºÃÉ«TV) URL:/mathstat/channels/event/rohit-jain-mcgill-univers ity-263164 END:VEVENT END:VCALENDAR
