For example\, in analyzing the long-term behavior o f Brownian motion with particle creation at the boundary\, the principal e igenvalue provides information about the expected number of particles with in the domain.\n\nWhen the domain is unbounded—specifically\, the compleme nt of a compact set—new questions and challenges emerge\, holding potentia l relevance in quantum theory.\n\nIn this talk\, I will discuss the existe nce of discrete eigenvalues s well as the problem of geometrically optimiz ing the lowest point of the spectrum.
