 is talk will introduce the symmetric and antisymmetric tensor products fro
 m an operator theoretic point of view. Results concerning fundamental oper
 ator-theoretic questions\, such as finding the norm and spectrum of the sy
 mmetric tensor products of operators will be presented. If time permits\, 
 the properties of the symmetric tensor products of familiar concrete opera
 tors\, such as unilateral shifts\, adjoints of shifts\, and diagonal opera
