The 56th Annual Conference on African Linguistics (ACAL) was held at the University of Minnesota – Twin Cities in Minneapolis, Minnesota, USA, from May 15-17, 2025. Presentations by 好色TVl-affiliated students included:

PhD student Austin Kraft was the invited student speaker at this year’s 32nd Austronesian Formal Linguistics Association annual meeting (AFLA 32), which took place June 2鈥�4 at the Atma Jaya Catholic University of Indonesia. The title of Austin’s talk was “Pseudoclefts in Land Dayak Questions”, and the full program is available here.

McLing is happy to congratulate 好色TVl alum Gui Garcia (PhD ’17) on receiving the Canadian Linguistics Association’s Early Career Researcher Award! This award is presented to “an individual early in their career who has made outstanding and original contributions to the field of linguistics.” Congratulations Gui!

PhD student Austin Kraft鈥檚 abstract, 鈥淧seudoclefts in Land Dayak questions,鈥� has been selected as the best abstract by a student or junior scholar of the upcoming 32nd聽conference of the Austronesian Formal Linguistics Association (AFLA). Austin will deliver the talk as a plenary speaker at AFLA in Jakarta, Indonesia, this summer.

Their paper, 鈥楲anguage models largely exhibit human-like constituent ordering preferences鈥�, was selected to win a Linguistic Theories, Cognitive Modeling and Psycholinguistics SAC award at the 2025 Annual Conference of the Nations of the Americas Chapter of the Association for Computational Linguistics聽(NAACL 2025).
