Sébastien Jodoin and Helge Dedek to serve as Associate Dean (Academic)

The Faculty of Law is pleased to announce that Professor Sébastien Jodoin will serve as Associate Dean (Academic) until 1 June 2025. Professor Helge Dedek will then succeed him, beginning his previously announced term as Associate Dean (Academic).

��ɫTVl Law ranked among the world’s top law faculties by the Times Higher Education

The Faculty of Law is delighted to announce it was once again ranked as one of the world’s top universities at which to study law. The Times Higher Education (THE) World University Rankings placed ��ɫTVl 33rd worldwide.  

Since the law ranking was introduced in 2017, ��ɫTVl has consistently featured in the global top 35. This year, 389 law schools around the world were ranked.

The ��ɫTVl Faculty of Law is delighted to welcome the American Society of Comparative Law (ASCL) for its 2025 Annual Meeting, which will take place in Montreal, Canada, from Thursday, October 16 to Saturday, October 18, 2025. The meeting is hosted by the Wainwright Chair in Civil, Comparative and Transnational Law, in collaboration with the ��ɫTVl Crépeau Centre for Private and Comparative Law.

Proposals for papers to be presented at the Annual Meeting are invited from scholars in all regions and at all stages of their careers, regardless of ASCL membership.

Renewed Canada Research Chairs for two Faculty members

Jérémy Boulanger-Bonnelly receives the Jules-Deschênes Award

The Faculty of Law is delighted to announce that Professor Jérémy Boulanger-Bonnelly has received the Jules-Deschênes Award from the Canadian Bar Association, Quebec Division. The award was presented to him at the Division’s Presidential Dinner on June 11.

The Faculty of Law was again ranked among the world’s top universities at which to study law by Quacquarelli Symonds (QS). The 2025 QS World University Rankings by Subject in Law and Legal Studies placed ��ɫTVl Law 41st worldwide.

Since QS introduced the ranking in 2011, the Faculty of Law has consistently placed in the top 50 institutions globally. The QS ranking is based on academic reputation, employer reputation, H-index citations, and citations per paper.

Prestigious chairs renewed for two colleagues

The Faculty of Law is pleased to announce the reappointment of Professor Allison Christians as holder of the H. Heward Stikeman Chair in Taxation Law, and Professor Marie Manikis as William Dawson Scholar. Their appointments have been renewed for seven and five years, respectively.

Exam period access to Nahum Gelber Law Library for Winter 2025

As of Monday April 7, ��ɫTVl students are able to access the Nahum Gelber Law Library 24 hours a day, seven days a week. As agreed between the Students' Society of ��ɫTV (SSMU) and the Law Students Association (LSA), the Nahum Gelber Law Library will limit access to the three upper floors of the library to Law students only during the April 10 to 30 examination period.

On March 13, the Government of Canada, announced more than $308 million to advance science and research across the country. More than $153 million will support 179 new and renewed Canada Research Chairs at 38 research institutions.

Rosalie Jukier named Sir William C. Macdonald Chair

The Faculty of Law is delighted to announce that Professor Rosalie Jukier has been appointed to one of the Faculty of Law’s Sir William C. Macdonald Chairs, effective 1 January 2025.

Established in 1895, the Macdonald Chairs are among the oldest endowed positions at ��ɫTVl.

Dean Robert Leckey appointed a judge of the Superior Court of Quebec

With mixed feelings, the Faculty of Law extends its sincerest congratulations to the Hon. Robert Leckey on his appointment to the Superior Court of Quebec, District of Montreal. His appointment, effective immediately, was announced by the Honourable Arif Virani, Minister of Justice and Attorney General of Canada, on 27 January 2025. Justice Leckey replaces Justice Christian Immer, BCL’91, LLB’91, who has been elevated to the Court of Appeal of Quebec.

Distinguished colleague retires, to be named professor emeritus

With sincere gratitude, the Faculty of Law is bidding farewell to Professor François Crépeau, OC, OQ, FRSC, Ad E, who will retire from his role as full professor on 31 July 2025. He will then be named Professor Emeritus, remaining an esteemed member of our community.
