However\, understanding community voices is a complex pr ocess that requires thoughtful interpretation. In this talk Mr. Levitan pr esents three years of collaborative qualitative data collected while worki ng with rural Quechua (Indigenous) communities in the Peruvian Andes to fa cilitate high-quality\, culturally grounded education for secondary school students. He examines and compares students’\, parents’\, and policy make rs’ aspirations and expectations of education\, and then reflexively consi ders the implications of their voices for responsive educational leadershi p. The study interprets participants’ voices through postcolonial theory\, feminist theory\, development theory\, and critical theory to understand the complexity and possibilities for developing responsive education polic y and curriculum. Findings highlight a need for multiple perspectives of i nterpretation and an iterative process of research and practice when worki ng with non-dominant groups in international and multicultural contexts. T he findings also build connections between culturally grounded education d evelopment and social justice in theory and practice. Mr. Levitan then dis cusses the implications of this research for educational leaders who work with diverse groups or groups who have cultural backgrounds different from their own.\n DTSTART:20161118T150000Z DTEND:20161118T160000Z SUMMARY:Joseph Levitan\, 'Responsive Leadership and the Complexity of Inte rpreting Participants’ Voices: An Example from the Peruvian Andes' URL:/dise/channels/event/joseph-levitan-responsive-lea dership-and-complexity-interpreting-participants-voices-example-264154 END:VEVENT END:VCALENDAR
