SUSANhub is a vast growing resource for collaboration in sustainability research
Universities are typically organized into silos â engineering, business, medicine â but sustainability requires collaboration across these fields. âFor example, solar energy involves policy, engineering, business,â says Juan Camilo Serpa, an Associate Professor at șĂÉ«TVl Desautels.â To foster cross-disciplinary collaboration among sustainability researchers, Serpa created the Sustainability Action Networkâor SUSAN for short. The networkâs virtual space hosts papers and datasets, and aggregates information about upcoming conferences, job opportunities and more. The resource is called SUSANhub, and its user base is growing fast. âI get 800 emails a day,â said Serpa, who co-founded the platform with a former student, Vibhu Bhardwaj. âLast week, we had 39,000 users in seven days. It is overwhelming.â
