Outstanding Alumni Award
Dr. Myrna Halpenny, DDS'74

Dr. Myrna Halpenny earned her undergraduate degree at the University of Saskatchewan before becoming one of two women admitted to the Class of 1974 in the Faculty of Dentistry. She practised general dentistry in Vancouver for two years before attending the University of Oregon to specialize in endodontics.

On October 25 we welcomed alumni back to campus to celebrate ��ɫTVl’s Homecoming 2024. The day started with Professor Christophe Bedos giving the Sustainability Dentistry and ��ɫTVl masterclass to present his project assessing current carbon footprints in dental medicine, and how to move the Faculty towards the goal of becoming one of the first fully sustainable dental medicine faculties in the world.

Celebrating 50 years of Excellence in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery

2024 marks the 50th anniversary of the first resident to graduate from the ��ɫTVl Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery (OMFS) program. To celebrate this milestone, the OMFS program held on May 31 a day-long event, beginning with a didactic program at the Osler Amphitheatre in the Montreal General Hospital and finishing with a gala dinner at the Fairmont Queen Elizabeth. The event brought together alumni, faculty, residents and friends, honoring the OMFS program’s remarkable history and its significant contributions to the field of oral maxillofacial surgery.

The annual Montreal Alumni Reception brought together Faculty of Dental Medicine and Oral Health Sciences alumni, faculty members and staff, and friends for a memorable evening of catching up and celebrating. It takes place at the Palais des congrès de Montréal during the Journées internationales dentaires du Québec (JDIQ), making it ideal for alumni to meet with one another directly at the JDIQ.

7th annual OMFS Research Day

The Division of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery (OMFS) held its 7th Research Day on October 18 in the newly reopened Osler Auditorium at the Montreal General Hospital. The event showcased the work of residents and graduate students and fostered a spirit of academic excellence. OMFS Research Day is part of the Dr. Kenneth Bentley Lecture Series in OMFS, taking place during ��ɫTVl's Homecoming week.

Ten abstracts were presented on topics that spanned the full spectrum of OMFS, from cutting-edge surgical techniques to the exploration of innovative technologies.

Alumni came back to ��ɫTVl for a wonderful Homecoming weekend from October 19 to 21. On Friday alumni were given tours of our faculty dental clinics. We were very happy to welcome back alumni from the classes of 1973 and 1988 for their 50th and 35th class reunions.

Dr. David Wu receives Scarlet Key Award

Congratulations to Dr. David Wu DMD’19 on receiving a 2023 Scarlet Key Award. The award is given to ��ɫTVl students and alumni who demonstrate excellence, leadership, dedication and perseverance, and that have taken on a significant project which has had a positive impact. He was given the award on March 23 at a ceremony where Faculty members Dr. Thomas Nguyen and Dr. Frances Power were present.
