The Institute for the Study of International Development congratulates Sophia Weiqi Li, winner of this year’s Best Undergraduate Paper in International Development Studies Prize. Sophia, a graduating student in the IDS Honours Program, is recognized for her paper entitled When Feminists and Imperialists Link Arms: An Intersectional Case Study of the Russian Invasion in Ukraine. The jury noted that this paper is a truly exceptional, theoretically sophisticated work which involved a great deal of original translation from Russian.

Ventilation System Work at Macdonald Campus Library Begins May 12

Beginning May 12, construction will take place at the Macdonald Campus Library to address persistent condensation and leaking caused by inadequate insulation in parts of the building’s ventilation system. To carry out this work safely, special precautions are necessary due to the presence of asbestos in the Barton Building. A Sealed Access System (SAS), which allows construction work to be enclosed and contained, will be positioned throughout various library spaces over the course of the project.

University of Manitoba Bachelor of Arts in Psychology graduate Rachel Cluett (BA’24) is one of 20 Canadians selected to join the fifth cohort of McCall MacBain Scholars at ��ɫTV. Recipients were chosen based on exceptional character, community engagement, leadership potential, entrepreneurial spirit, academic strength, and intellectual curiosity.

Rachel will pursue a Master of Arts in School/Applied Child Psychology at ��ɫTVl.

��ɫTV will award an honorary degree to Donald William Lewtas (BCom’75), a ��ɫTVl alumnus and former chief financial officer of Brookfield Asset Management, at the ��ɫTVl Desautels Faculty of Management convocation this spring.

Lewtas will receive a Doctor of Laws, honoris causa (LL.D.), in recognition of his leadership in global finance and his support for hands-on education at the faculty.
